Sprint Interval Workout (Mile #2) - Charlie Plaskon
Tuesday Jul 28, 2020
Tuesday Jul 28, 2020
I want to welcome you to the Weathered Athlete Podcast Sprint Interval Workout. This is where the focus will be on a few 30 second burst of Audio to provide maximum benefit for those on a time schedule. However, it does not replace the benefit of the Low Intensity Steady State activity that the Full Mile conversation will have.
Today's session is led by Charlie Plaskon the 77 y/o visually impaired triathlete who started running at 55 and is close to achieving his goal of 10 Long Course Ironman events. You will find out that he has navigated life on and off the triathlon course with more zest and vision than some sighted people. I hope his story of determination and willingness to take a chance even under adverse conditions can provide a guide to overcome any obstacles in your life.

I want to welcome you to the Weathered Athlete Podcast Sprint Interval Workout. This is where the focus will be on a few 30 seconds burst of Audio to provide maximum benefit for those on a time schedule. However, it does not replace the benefit of the Low Intensity Steady State activity that the Full Mile conversation will have.
Today’s session is led by Walt Maxwell who I had the pleasure of having join me at the start of this journey. He provides great insight on how he has navigated life on and off the race course.

Mile#2 - Charlie Plaskon
Sunday Jul 26, 2020
Sunday Jul 26, 2020
Today I am honored to have Charlie Plaskon joining me as I complete my second mile of this journey. For those of you that don’t know Charlie, he is a force to be reckon with. He has been legally blind his whole life due to losing his central visual field from Stargarts Disease. You find out he has accomplished more than anyone especially his childhood eye doctor could have imagined.
Charlie is gracious to open up on his childhood diagnosis and what led him to start running at age 55 and how he made the transition to triathlon. He is a 77 year old who continues to work towards his goal to complete 10 Long Course Ironman events.
Disclaimer: We do get heavy into the triathlon weeds in the middle section. But that content provides a great analogy to how he has learned to navigate life just as he has on an Ironman Course, one mile at a time with determination and the assistance of a guide when needed.
His energy and zest for life is infectious in everything he does. His Covid training activities would not be the 1st recommendations I would give due to his prior back surgery. But he has a point it is a great Core Workout.
So, I encourage you to sit back and use this mile for reflection and allow Charlie be your guide and teach you how despite obstacles, or not so perfect conditions, you Weather the Storm, to keep going and come out with a smile on your face.

Mile #1 - Walt Maxwell
Sunday Jul 19, 2020
Sunday Jul 19, 2020
Walt Maxwell (55 y/o) is the Director, North American Sales for Richelieu who provides insight into how he has worked to navigate life, travel and training in a Pre and Post-Covid World. He opens about his strengths and weakness of participating in multiple events a year and how he hopes to remain competing for another 20-30 years.
He has been lucky enough to be fairly injury free. I bet you will be able to see a few themes that he provides that I believe are part of his secret to his success and can benefit everyone, even non triathletes.
He is that friend that everyone needs to have, if you are looking at taking a journey and you want some company and encouragement. Which as you will hear can lead to some last minute unplanned events on his part. I encourage you to hop on your favorite piece of exercise equipment or use this time for reflection as you recover from your day and find out more about “my friend, your friend, everyone’s friend” that is Walt Maxwell

The Weathered Athlete Podcast Intro
Wednesday Jul 08, 2020
Wednesday Jul 08, 2020
This podcast is going to focus on those athletes over the age of 50 and in most cases those that are still competing in their 70's, 80's and even 90's. These athletes no matter how many storms they have weathered, they continue to make the necessary repairs and keep moving forward.
Along with spending time with these remarkable individuals I will also spend time talking to the coaches and healthcare professionals that work to help these Weathered Athletes succeed.
As a weathering athlete and a Physical Therapist, this podcast will cover many topics from the perspective of a Weathered Athlete including training, in-event or race management, recovery and rehab from injury.
I encourage you to subscribe, tell your friends(even those in your age group) and sit back and enjoy. My hope is that no matter what your age you will learn a few tips to get you to the next finish line or podium and not go quietly into the night when its your turn!!
